Use of TikTok by Library and Information Science (LIS) Students in Tertiary Institutions in Anambra State, Nigeria

Abstract

This research specifically investigated the use of TikTok by library and information science students in Anambra State, Nigeria. The study design was survey research design. The population of the study comprised 151 2nd year undergraduate students of Library and Information Science (LIS) from two federal institution of learning in Anambra State, Nigeria. Three research questions guided the study. The instrument for data collection was a questionnaire. Data collected was analysed with frequency and percentage. The study revealed that Majority (57.14%) of the undergraduate students use TikTok site every 20-30 minutes every day, showing frequent use. The undergraduate students’ purposes for using TikTok were mainly for academic content creation, and learning. Major challenges students encounter in their use of TikTok were network problems and power outage. It was recommended that lecturers should always engage students in discussions, assignments and project that could enhance learning and enable the student to use the TikTok site for academic activities.
